School Info

Shute is a school that offers an irresistible invitation to learning; a school where learning is an exciting challenge; a school where learners work together to make connections; a school that encourages curiosity; a school where learning is a preparation for life.

Shute offers an amazing start for your child. A village primary, in a beautiful setting, the school can accommodate children between the ages of 3 years and 11 years across its four classes. The Squirrels@Shute, Foundation Stage Unit offers nursery age provision, on site, to aid a seamless transition between Nursery and School.

Shute Community Primary School is a small rural primary school situated at one end of the picturesque village of Shute. The school benefits from an exceptional outdoor environment that includes two playgrounds, a large school field, an organic garden and wooded area and outdoor stage. We are currently organised in four mixed aged classes, with a team of experienced and talented full and part-time teachers and support staff. We have a Foundation Stage Unit called Squirrels @ Shute with spacious facilities on site.

The teaching areas of the school are both spacious and very well resourced. We are constantly updating our facilities to provide an effective learning environment. The school has a well stocked library and resource room, a bank of laptops available to all children and a school hall with gym facilities. Each class has an interactive whiteboard which enables us to deliver an exciting and engaging curriculum. The children have access to swimming sessions at the Flamingo Pool at Axminster for set periods of time throughout the year. The school achieved the ‘Active Mark’ for exceptional delivery of the National School Sport Strategy. We also have an ‘Artsmark Silver Award’ for outstanding work in art, drama and music.

We aim to offer every child the very best start to their education by providing exemplary learning and care in a calm, friendly and dynamic environment. We have a very high expectation of our pupils’ progress and achievement. To help them reach their potential, our curriculum is broad, balanced and stimulating and we remain focused on each child throughout their time here.

Of course an education is not merely about results. We believe strongly in nurturing the whole child so that, by the time they leave the school, they have not only achieved academically, but are emotionally and socially prepared for the challenges to come.

The school thrives on the skills of all those who contribute – parents, teachers, governors, the PTFA and volunteer helpers. The interaction between these groups is an invaluable aspect of school life, generating both energy and ideas.

We are proud of our unique, family school ethos. It continues to provide first class teaching and learning opportunities for children in a friendly, vibrant and educationally challenging environment where every child is supported to succeed.

Come and visit this exceptional school to see and feel the difference for yourself.

We are always available to existing parents to discuss any area of their child’s education and, of course, welcome prospective parents who wish to enquire about the school.
